THE FIRST DATE... ACCORDING TO THE BRIDE...
Date: July 9, 2008
Place: Joy Mart Restaurant in Downtown Los Angeles’ Little Tokyo
After meeting Phil at the news conference, he officially asked me out via Facebook later that night. That was so 2000s of him!
We agreed to meet in Little Tokyo in the evening, under the red arch. I lived in Downtown, just steps from the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Phil lived in La Mirada at the time.
I remember I wore all white and he wore all black. Something about that makes me laugh when I look back now! We ended up having dinner at Joy Mart, and then grabbed mochi at a nearby shop.
We spent the night walking and talking since neither of us had work the next day. We did laps around Little Tokyo before we ended up relocating and strolling around the California Plaza, across the street from where I was living.
It was as if time stood still. I had no concept of how late it was -- and I honestly didn’t care! I was really having such a great time with a good-looking guy. I was just so lost in the moment. We could talk shop and understand each other’s language. That was so nice to be able to do that!
It was so late when Phil and I finally said good night to each other but I knew right away that I would see him again. It was from that day forward that we became pretty much inseparable. And, as they say, that was just the start!
